About Our Church
We are located in Eastern Idaho about 3 hours north of Salt Lake City, UT. On a clear day you can see the top of the Tetons. Our city population is around 52,000, the elevation is 4,700 feet above sea level, our primary employer is the Idaho National Lab, with tourism and medical being a close second. Our church is located on the southeast part of Idaho Falls. We are a member of the Eastern Idaho Southern Baptist Association and UISBC. There are two Southern Baptist Churches in our area. Our sister church Calvary Baptist Church has just called a pastor after almost two years without one. The primary religious expression is LDS. The largest evangelical church in Idaho Falls is Calvary Chapel. I have asked our state staff to provide us with the latest demographics and when I get them I will provide you with a copy.
We are averaging around 35 in Sunday School, 50 in worship service, have Wednesday prayer service, Thursday prayer cells, and a Food Bank ministry. The primary leadership of our church consists of pastor, two deacons, and three trustees. We have a fully graded Sunday School, very talented music staff, choir and recently began a Children’s Worship Service. Our worship facility is a converted farm house that will seat 80 comfortably, space for Sunday School is becoming critical as is our fellowship space. The current growth in our church is with our children and younger parents. Like many small churches it is difficult for us to “compete” for younger families with churches that have larger facilities and more diverse programs.
Our church sits on seven acres and we have housing additions expanding into our area of the city. Besides our worship facility we have a large shed that houses our Food Bank ministry. Our church is debt free and we have a fledgling building fund.
Our major emphasis for the first half of the church year is focused on participating in GPS. I will attach a copy of our 2010 calendar (the portions in blue relate directly to GPS). If God brings our churches together in partnership we are flexible and the dates of July 24-31 can be accommodated. It may be a little premature to fully answer your three questions: (1) (2) what will we be doing?; (2) where will we stay?; (3) and what’s the food like?, but the specifics of the mission depends upon the GPS results, etc. We would love for your team to stay with us in our homes, but the church would be available to use as a home base. We have cooking facilities and two showers if you would choose that option. There are also several hotels in our area that accommodate groups. It is important to me and our church that, God willing, we form a working partnership and that we can help you in your Jerusalem as you help us in ours. Let’s continue to pray and seek the face of God asking for wisdom and guidance in reaching the lost for His Kingdom.
